Every so often I get the urge to rewatch these movies, and while I sometimes struggle to sit through TV episodes uninterrupted, I have no trouble setting aside entire chunks of my day for this. Every time I find myself appreciating something different about the experience, and this time it was watching Boromir’s slow realization of who and what he was becoming under the influence of the Ring. There’s so many little moments where you can see his facade nearly fall apart, and it hurts way harder on rewatches knowing where his story will lead.

Nearly 25 years later, and the visual design of this movie still blows me away. I think I’ll be rewatching this trilogy for the rest of my life.

Also, shouts out to the dwarves for defying nature and reason by designing the world’s least OSHA-compliant exit stairwell.
